Panchvati Gaurav

Rest : Panchvati Gaurav
Meal : Lunch
Loc : Infiniti Mall, Andheri Link Road

After a long day auditioning voice over talent in Andheri, we decided to grab a quick lunch before heading to work. Last week in Andheri, doing the same thing we ended up at TGIF for a dreadful meal. I regretted not having gone into Panchvati, so this time i got a shot at making up for my mistake.

Panchvati serves a pretty impressive thali here in Andheri, my visit to their older Marine Lines venue was good (read), except the food was not that warm which was a major turn off. This time around though, the service was okay and the food was hot.

They serve a boring dhokla, a fantastic papdi chaat, of the 4 veggies, three were great, one i didnt like at all. Not much of an option when it comes to bread, all they have is roti and puris, the masala rice was below average. The Marine Lines venue serves a bhakri as well, which i enjoy. The chaas could have been way colder.

Overall, the food is good, the service ordinary.

I would consider a 150-175 to be a decent price for a thali, the moment you cross to 2oo, it needs to be superlative. While it was good, it was def not worth the 250 per person price tag.

he he who went to TGIF now :)

Aren't most Gujrati thalis above Rs 200?

hey KK,

*embarassed"* in my defense, i was really hungry and not thinking straight.

i think with the recent rise in food prices the thalis might have shot up, though Thakkar & Joshi Clube were lower although Joshi has a more limited outlay of food)

overall, i think its not surprising that they have touched over 200...

very few seem worth it though.

I go to Panchvati Gaurav quite often in in-orbit mall, vashi as I'm an ardent fan of thaali and being a Gujarati, I love their food ..

I'm surprised that they did not offer you BHakhris .. Their Bhakhris are quite delicious ..

In short, it's a nice place to hv healthy dinner ..

A bit on a expensive side but the recent prise-rise of every single food item is convincing enought to believe their price.

Nice review though but why you did not like the service?? .. I just love their service !!

Soham,

nice to hear from you. im guessing they have different menus everywhere, everyday. therefore no two places might have the same combo. i missed the bhakris for sure....

dont go out for thalis as much, as there are no new options. but it was decent food. i enjoyed it.. though the service was a downer. s

someone was banging away on plates in the kitchen very loudly and folk were absent minded. thali places either have pushy service or inattenitve, rarely is it perfect.

as for pricing. i think 250 is insane.

Excellent review !! We had a
similar bad expereince today after paying 270/- per head for a sunday special .Further two items seemed stale BUT they refused to admit the same .They also cleverly serve paan in a humble manner & then fleece you at 15 bucks for the half size paan .TRAINEE SERVERS make the who expereince even worse .NO WONDER ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON WE WERE ONLY 10- 12 OF US in the restauarant .POOR SHOW ,MUST IMPROVE TO GIVE US A BETTER FEELING AND A VALUE FOR MONEY EXPEREINCE !!anancon@rediffmail.com

i have to agree with there, its quite underhanded to offer a pan like its a gift (as its traditionally meant to be a token of welcome or the end of a meal) and then bang, charge you a chunk of change for it... people catch on to that and dont fall for it again..

i do find their thali to be good but overpriced. i think the moment you crack the 200 rupee barrier expectations go WAY up.
