i reckon its about 12.5% on food, on alcohol its probably 20% there might be an additional tax if you go to a 5 Star...

Thanks Gaurav et all on the VAT questionwas just wondering when I went to Moti Mahal Delux in In orbit Malad Mumbai.Ok food but bullshit service and over and above they charged 10 % service charge.
Moti.service charge add on is relatively rare in India, out west when added it is explicitly stated on the menu. this also means that you dont have to leave an additional tip unless u are very happy with the service. but then if you arent happy you cant penalise them.moti mahal at nariman point has always been very positive..
Simran, just saw one in covent garden last week, will give them a shout when im there again.
